The same as in Taize, we pray three times a day.

Usually in the evening we prepare prayers for the next day. Together we choose psalms, reading and songs.

In the morning we pray in the chapel near our house or in the university chapel. One day we even prayed outside in the park.

Even though we help in different places in the morning, we come together for the midday prayer – sometimes it takes place in Grolley and sometimes in Fribourg.

We are trying to invite more and more people for the prayer. We have put some advertisments in churches in Fribourg and welcome new people whom we get to know during our staying here.

Usually during evenings we have some guests from all over the world. As Fribourg is a student city, it’s easy to find people from different countries here.

Our prayers are ecumenical, as in Taize. Orthodox from Eritrea, Greece and Georgia joined us several times.

Sometimes we pray alone, but the prayer still remains the most important part of our experience.

Activities in Grolley

Beside classes in Passarelles we also have some activities with refugees in Grolley – small village near Fribourg. There are two houses where around 70 refugees live. They are from different countries, like Iran, Syria, Afganistan, Eritrea, Georgia, Tibet. Majority of them are young men, but there are also some families with children.

Everyday during our stay in Small provisional community we spend some time with them – playing card games, talking, cooking – simply staying together. Usually they stay at house and don’t have opportunity to go outside very often. That’s why we came up with an idea to go for a trip to Lake Murten.

As soon as we arrived to the lake some people went swimming, other started preparing a grill or playing badminton.

During that time we had an opportunity to get to know each other closer. We were talking a lot, enjoying a nature and food, spicy food 🙂

Even though we had language barriers, we managed to understand each other with simple phrases, gestures and smiles.

The day passed very fast but the time of evening prayer was coming. After coming back to Grolley together with some refugees we went to the Chapel of St Joseph in Fribourg.

Moving to Fribourg

On the second day in the morning we had our first prayer together – the best start before moving to Fribourg, to the city, where we will spend next two weeks.

In the afternoon we went to Passarelles – association that help refugees with integration in Fribourg. There we had a meeting with Kossivi, the head of organisation, and other volunteers. They told us a little about their activities.

Our main task will be teaching refugees English and German. Also we will have two cultural events, where we will tell more about Taize and our countries.

After day in Passarelles we went for a short walk in order to discover an old city of Fribourg.

After few days, which we spent together in Taize, we finally arrived to Grolley, a small village near Fribourg in Switzerland. We were warmly welcomed at the house of Chantal and Jean-Marie. Hopefully, we will meet them again in the end of August. After a while, we’ve met Michael, who is going to help us while our stay in Switzerland.

Our first day seemed to end soon, but suddenly we got invitated to the big party with fireworks, because of the National Festival of Switzerland.
That was our first occasion to meet refugees from the place where we are going to stay during our adventure.
